Pernambuco are a dynamic strings collective of ecologically-minded musicians. 'Pernambuco: Live at The Loco Klub’ promises a dynamic evening of music and activism. We are bringing Brazil to Bristol, with a programme celebrating both Brazilian and European music, classical and contemporary. Featured performers include Matthew Barley (cello), Harriet Riley (percussion), and Simmy Singh (violin).
Through events such as this, we are raising awareness for Brazil's pernambuco tree, or paubrasilia, which is now endangered due to mass deforestation. Music shares a powerful link to this tree, the bows of string instruments being crafted from pernambuco wood for generations due to its strength and resonance. We have partnered with Trees of Music for this event, a RAIN network project who are working to grow pernambuco trees, reforest water springs, and safeguard the future of classical music through action, engagement, and education.
