Anna Meredith ~ Glasgow

  • Tramway 25 Albert Drive Glasgow, Scotland, G41 2PE United Kingdom (map)

Anna Meredith brings her exhilarating brand of cutting-edge music to Celtic Connections 2023. Straddling contemporary classical, art pop, electronica and experimental rock, the Mercury Award-shortlisted Scottish composer garnered multiple awards with albums Varmints and FIBS.

Powered by her virtuosic band on guitar, drums, cello and tuba, this wildly inventive artist has performed worldwide to ecstatic reviews. Her creative output is dizzying. As well as film and TV work, she’s composed spectacular openers for both the BBC Proms and the Edinburgh International Festival. She’s also produced an array of eclectic, genre-defying works including current album, Bumps Per Minute: 18 Studies for Dodgems – which emerged from a quirky art installation involving fairground bumper cars.

“Stormy, ecstatic, endlessly danceable” (NPR Music)

Glasgow's C Duncan presents his new album, Alluvium. It's an atmospheric album, full of explorative pop and, according to Narc Magazine, "supported by operatic, show-tune, environments".

Chris is the son of two classical musicians. Surrounded by music throughout his childhood, Chris initially took up piano and viola and later guitar, bass and drums. Eventually, he enrolled in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to study music composition.

His 2015 debut album Architect was Mercury nominated, while his 2016 Twilight Zone inspired second album The Midnight Sun was shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year. He supported Elbow on their tour which led him to record his third album Health at their studio in Salford with Craig Potter. It was also shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year.
