Grab a drink, pull up a seat and enjoy some late evening classical vibes with the spellbinding Hermes Experiment. Harp, clarinet, soprano and double bass is hardly a traditional quartet line-up, but The Hermes Experiment is anything but traditional. Capitalising on their deliberately idiosyncratic combination of instruments, the ensemble has commissioned over 60 composers at various stages of their careers, as well as creating their own innovative arrangements and venturing into live free improvisation.
In this fabulous pot pourri, pieces by contemporary leading lights Anna Meredith, Helen Grime and Errollyn Wallen rub shoulders with 17th-century Parisian composer Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and the 20th-century voices of Lili Boulanger and Imogen Holst and many others, in a showcase of individual styles and influences from different genres and continents.
