The sound of the 17th-century viola da gamba is enchanting enough by itself, but Liam Byrne makes it truly magical in this programme for viol and live electronics.
Featuring works from his celebrated 2019 debut album Concrete in new, fully immersive and entirely live rearrangements, Liam builds fresh new sonic worlds out of ancient music in the madrigals of Maddalena Casulana and Picforth’s In Nomine, constructs a sonic cathedral with Nico Muhly’s Long Phrases for the Wilton Diptych, and transforms harmonies into pure clouds of colour in Alex Mills’ Suspensions and Solutions.
