Manchester Collective are known for their radical experimental programming and daring collaborations, and Bold Tendencies is excited to welcome them for this double programme of Richard Strauss’ visions of spiritual transformation, human depravity and evolution. Arguably the most sensuous of all the composer’s output, and one of his final works, Four Last Songs is a conscious farewell to the world and a contemplation of eternity. It is paired with Metamorphosen, a work of staggering rhythmic and melodic complexity, written at a time of immense and permanent change in the world.
