Woman Power: music by female composers

Landscape and soundscape are combined in this concert by Meliora Collective’s flexible ensemble of wind and string players. The wide-open landscapes of Australia are depicted in Aboriginal Australian Deborah Cheetham’s tapestry inspired Ngarrgooroon.

On the other side of the world, Valerie Coleman’s quintet vividly depicts the bluesy dialect of the Mississippi delta region, home to her mother’s family. Jessie Montgomery traces the Great Migration journey of her great-grandfather, the Sergeant McCauley of the piece’s title, making use of African American spirituals and work songs to follow his journey from the rural south to big cities and back again.

£11 tickets available for students and under 30s
