Award-winning pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason returns to Bold Tendencies, on the rooftop at Peckham Multi-Storey Car Park, with a propulsive programme bringing together music from Joseph Hadyn; Fanny Mendelssohn, whose work remained unpublished in her lifetime; and Robert Schumann’s masterwork Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood) - 13 miniatures of highly economical music in which a single chord creates great drama and every note seems perfect. It is a showcase of poetic clarity and musical imagination, taking the child as a point of access to insights and experiences lost in adulthood: vivid, emotional and evocative. The concert closes with Chopin’s third and final Piano Sonata. One of his most difficult compositions, it is a demon to perform, but spectacularly rewarding in its massive virtuosity and heroic sweep.
