Dame Evelyn Glennie is the first person in history to create and sustain a career as a full-time professional solo percussionist. In 1992 she became the first musician to perform a percussion concerto at the BBC Proms. She has commissioned more than 200 works, from composers including Mark-Anthony Turnage, Sally Beamish and Sir James MacMillan.
Alongside her performing career, Glennie has written music for live performance (including for the RSC’s 2018 production of Troilus and Cressida), and for radio, television and film. She is founder of the charity The Evelyn Glennie Foundation, and gives masterclasses across the world. Her awards include two Grammy Awards®, the Polar Prize and the Companion of Honour.
